It's ok to not be ok.

Sharing our tips and tricks to overcome life's lemons!

Ever heard of the saying "You can't pour from an empty cup"?

In this blog we're breaking down the taboos about stress, anxiety, burn out and many other feelings that overcome us at some point in life.

First things first:

We live in a world were perfection is a must as we're blinded by social media, the pressure of a fast moving society, a crazy virus and many other things which we can't always get a grasp on, so when life brings us down we're not always prepared for it and we often feel lost and anxious.

When life throws us lemons, we tend to keep our emotions to ourselves and try to cope with whatever's happening without actually taking the time to realize "what is happening"?

I'm saying this as it's important to start your healing journey by being honest to yourself and asking yourself some questions that can bring relief and sense to whatever situation you're in.

Anxiety, depression or burn out are often caused by situations that have been dragging along for some time and are making us feel stressed, drained and tired.

Here are some questions to ask yourself and guide yourself towards a happier state of mind:

1) Why am I feeling like this?

This is the first question to ask yourself as you will realize that most of the time, your feelings are caused by external factors like work, relationship, kids, friends, family, etc..

2) Do I control the situation?

THE BAD NEWS IS: You do not control people, situations, health, the weather,..

THE GOOD NEWS IS: You can learn to accept this and let certain feelings go as you realize that they are NOT in your control. So I guess you're with me when I tell you: let it go, as you can continue to feel how you're feeling or can stop today as you realize that your feelings will NOT change the situation.

I know this is hard, but it's a simple shift in your mindset that you need to teach yourself.

EXAMPLE OF A SITUATION

You leave your house in time for work and you're stuck in traffic so you already know you will be late.

REACTION AND MINDSET

Most of us will start rushing like a fool in traffic, shouting at people, and feeling like everything is going the wrong way.

I'm sure you recognize this. (guilty)

The best reaction to this situation would be to realize that you're late and will not make it due to an external factor that you do not control. In this case "traffic".
You do control communication and you do control your mind, so what you should do is call your colleague / boss or customer to explain the situation and tell them you do not control it and will do everything you can to make it there as soon as possible.

The other thing to do is to realize that shouting, rushing and feeling like this is happening to you for a reason - will not get you anywhere. It will only leave you stressed and will drain you for the rest of the day. There's no winning in this situation so do yourself a favor and LET IT GO.

The thing is, whatever is happening in life, it is not happening TO YOU, it is just happening.

I know this sounds harsh if you're dealing with painful situations such as health issues, losing a family member, dealing with a bad relationship and/or many other situations that can bring you down in the worst way.

The truth is that the way you deal with your mindset and how you look at situations, will bring you further in life instead of feeling stuck, down, misunderstood and sad.

Changing the way you look at situations is not an easy thing and takes time so I personally recommend being open to read certain books, reaching out for therapy and learning to get to know yourself and how you react to triggers in life.

Reminder: therapy is a not crime and does not make you a crazy person. It is part of self improvement so consider it a gift to yourself as it will help you grow and learn.

Now that you realize that mindset is key to how you feel in life, you should also realize what longterm exposure to stress can do to your body and why it's  important to help it in the best way possible to get back on track and feel healthy, happy and in control.

Here are some of my go-to supplements I would recommend if you're starting your journey to a happier and healthier YOU!

Magnesium: stress causes our body to run on adrenaline and produce a lot of cortisol. To balance out these high levels our body uses its own magnesium  resources. There's only so much magnesium in our body so helping it by giving it a higher dose in supplements will release tension in the muscles and will help to balance out the adrenaline and cortisol which is making us feel anxious and drained.

Result: you feel much calmer and your muscles loosen up. (results can be felt after a week)

I suggest Metarelax which contains 900mg of pure magnesium. (most of the supplements only contain around 300mg which is not enough to recover when you need to boost your body)

Vitamine B: this precious one is known for relieving anxiety and giving energy back to our body.

Result: you're more focused and feel energized

I suggest: Vitamine B complex by B-DYN

Zinc: Nature's finest happy maker as it controls our memory, immunity and mood. Giving yourself a Zinc boost once in a while is a great way to help your body and mind heal and recover.

Result: a stronger immune system, better memory and focus + a happier mood in general as zinc is a natural anti depressant.

I suggest: TRI ZINC

If you feel like you could use some guidance in life, I personally recommend my wonderful coach Veeke Verstraete who has helped me in the greatest way when dealing with severe family related issues, health problems and stress caused by a growing business. Fun fact: she used to play a big roll in Ann De Meulemeester's team for many years.

Finding the right coach can take time as you need to feel comfortable, so don't give up after one session and go with the flow.

Now that we talked about mindset and supplements, you should not forget how exercise and the right foods are crucial when dealing with life's juicy lemons.

Even if you feel drained and tired, just try to pick yourself up, put on your sweats and go for a run, start a 30 day yoga challenge, or just go for a walk every day to release tension and clear the mind. This might be hard in the beginning but baby steps are better than no steps, so remember: YOU GOT THIS and DO NOT GIVE UP. Give yourself at least 2 weeks in this new habit and you will feel that every day gets better and better.

Our last tip to get you going is to stop your screentime at least 1 hour to 30 minutes before going to bed. This means: no phone - no tv

Instead try out some of our favourite books that will teach you many things about life in a fun and easy way. A little me-time is crucial so try to fit in some reading/learning into your schedule every day for a couple of weeks.

1) Solve for Happy

2) The monk who sold his ferrari

3) The subtle art of not giving a f*ck

4) The Alchemist

Put your phone on flight mode and make sure to not read emails / messages / instagram before you're dressed and ready for the day.

By doing this, you're already giving yourself a stress relief as your starting the day with a calm and clear mind. (I'll be sharing a little morning and night time routine soon)

The last thing I will tell you is to remember this:
You can be strong enough to stand alone, smart enough to know when you need help and brave enough to ask for it, so don't be shy to get out there and start your journey.

You're stronger than you think so grab life by the balls and get going girl, because you got this!

Inspired by life, brought to you with love,

Anna
